I have struggled with my weight for as long as I can remember. When I was in school I was made fun of for being overweight. In the 6th grade all of the mocking and bullying compelled me to fake sickness in order to miss school. Even later, when I was more comfortable with myself, I still wished that the clothes I bought at Express looked like they did on the mannequin when I would wear them.

This is a promise that God makes to the nation of Israel after their release from Babylon. At that point the nation of Israel had plenty to fear. They had been in exile for 70 years, they were going home to a broken city and they were surrounded by enemies. In the midst of that situation, in the midst of all that uncertainty, God tells them not to fear because he is with them.

In the 90s MTV started broadcasting spring break festivities from such exotic locales as Ft. Lauderdale and Lake Havasu. It was through those broadcasts that I began to learn about the rampant debauchery that often goes hand-in-hand with spring break. As a young nerd, though, and a fairly straight-laced Christian, I knew that I had no desire to let loose and debauch myself in the manner portrayed on MTV. Whether a hand puppet or digitally animated, Yoda is one of the greatest characters in the Star Wars universe. He’s not great because of his command of the Force. He’s not great because of his skill with a lightsaber. Yoda is great because of his ability to train and mentor Pandawans and Jedi Knights. Yoda came alongside those he mentored and helped them realize their full potential.

Like other major sporting events, March Madness can be a little confusing for nerds. Why would so many people call in sick on a Thursday to sit around and watch basketball all day?
