I had my ordination ceremony yesterday and I am officially the Reverend Christian Nerd. I suppose I’m more officially the Reverend Scott Higa but, for the purposes of this blog, why not be an ordained nerd?
I’ve already shared my thoughts about ordination and why it’s important to me. I enjoyed the ceremony and going through the rites for official ordination. Beyond those rites, though, the ceremony was very special to me for a number of reasons.
First, one of my former students led worship for the ceremony. Ron was just a seventh grade boy who I met while doing junior high ministry at my old church. I was his leader for many years and eventually he became one of my close friends. Ron is some of the fruit that God has produced through my ministry and it was special to have him lead worship at the ceremony.
Second, my youth pastor came out from Michigan to be a part of the ceremony. Kevin is one of the most influential people in my lives. He was my youth pastor while growing up, he was my boss while I interned for him and he has always been a model for what it means to live out a life of ministry. He and his wife saw something in me that I didn’t see in myself. God blessed their investment in me and I can only hope my life produces as much fruit as theirs.
Third, my grandpa was a part of the ceremony. My grandpa is 91 years old and has been doing ministry for 64 years. He is the most amazing man I know and my life has been thoroughly blessed because of him. My grandpa shared the passage about Elijah passing his mantle to Elisha. My grandpa told me that he wanted to pass his blessings onto me. Hearing my grandpa give me a charge during my ordination was one of the highlights of my life. My grandpa has blessed me beyond measure and I can only hope to live a life as influential as his.
My ordination ceremony was very special. It was great to celebrate God’s calling on my life. I’m so thankful for all of those who celebrated with me and affirmed the path I’ve chosen.
Now, though, I’d better look into buying TheReverendChristianNerd.com.
Congratulations, Scott! Glad to hear you've reached this milestone on your journey.
Thanks, Mike.
It was an awesome time seeing those people speak to and about you Scott. I know you answered no when I asked you if you felt Holier afterwards, but I definitely felt the Spirits anointing during the whole process of your ordination service. God was definitely there and definitely approves and I know you will be blessed as you bless others to be a vessel for his kingdom as you are doing. Congrats buddy, and it was an honor to be there and share in one of the most important moments/days in your life. God Bless.
Thanks, B.
Congratulations!
